MathScore© introduces EduFighter game

By Michael Steven Dela Torre

MathScore©, the online math supplemental program developed by Steven Yang recently launched a new feature of the program that adds more fun and raises the level of competitiveness while learning mathematics. On September 17, MathScore© conducted an orientation for their new game called the \"Edufighter\" at the Elementary Computer Laboratory in to familiarize and introduce the game to the students.
The EduFighter game is an online interactive math game that provides real-time interaction with students in the school domain and the entire globe. It supports up to 8 simultaneous players in 4 vs 4 team-based action, and it also provides a set of single player missions with high scores and a rating system. Students who want to access the game need to reach the qualifying points of 100,000 for the high school and 50,000 for the elementary.

The objective of the game is to take down the enemy\'s ship by using the provided offensive skills and defend your own ship by protecting it with defensive skills. In order to execute attacks and defenses, the players must answer a series of math questions. If they answered all the questions correct, the action will be executed. If they got one question wrong, they will encounter a 10 second cool-down before making their next move.
There are four commanding stations: Tactical, Science, Security, and Engineering. The Tactical and Science stations act as offense mechanisms while the Security and Engineering stations act as defense mechanisms. There are a total of twenty missions to accomplish in the game. In order to unlock the [tougher] missions, you have to finish the preceding missions. The game\'s rating system shows the ranking of players worldwide.
According to Mr. Jeffrey Benitez, a MathScore© Programmer Specialist, from the qualifiers, four EduFighters from the elementary and high school department will be chosen to compete with EduFighters of other schools in order to reach the National Competition that will be held at New Era University, Quezon City.
The EduFighter qualifiers from the high school department are John Christian Barrameda with 314,330 points; Mikka Ellah Medina with 205,994 points; Nicola Christine Rivera with 191,776 points; Rachel Jane Regaspi with 152,920 points; Divine Grace Garcia with 137,363 points; Marielle Aringo with 128,970 points; Adrian Patrick Roxas with 126,625 points; Leonardo Maliwanag with 123,703 points; Michael Steven Dela Torre with 119,814 points; Christine Catud with 118,308 points; Ma. Cristina Argete with 110,385 points; Hazel Mari Dalawampu with 110,253 points; Paoline Aviles with 108,724 points; Remuz Christian Berroya with 100,835 points; Angelica Ma. Beatriz Kalaw with 100,786 points; and Peter Gabriel Buot with 100,329 points.

Mercado won 3rd place, and High School EduFighters John Christian M. Barrameda, Nicola Christine A. Rivera, Adrian Patrick R. Roxas, and Leonardo C. Maliwanag won 3rd place as well. P-Noy implements K+12 program

By Carlos Harry De Taza

President Benigno "P-Noy" S. Aquino III remains consistent, to implement the K+12 basic education program in the Philippines, in a belief that it has the capacity to upgrade the quality of education and to make future Filipino citizens globally competitive.

K+12 aims to provide sufficient time to educate children in concepts, skills and middle-level skills development, and in preparation for employment, tertiary education and entrepreneurship.

The K+12 program implementation started in public schools last 2012-2013, and the first batch of learners who went through the program will graduate on 2024. San Lorenzo School enjoined the Department of Education's call to implement the K+12 program in the curriculum that same year by starting with the Grade 1 and Grade 7 students.

K+12 features strengthening early childhood education, insurance of integrated and seamless learning, nurturing of the holistically developed Filipino and building proficiency through language. Every Filipino child can now enter school at the age of 5 in preparation for formal education. Students would also be able to learn using their mother tongue or the language they commonly use (e.g. Cebuano, Bikolano, Visayan dialect) and English and Filipino are be taught as major subjects starting Grade 1.

Currently, the Department of Education aims to supply all the shortages before the end of 2013.
